• Conscious Sedation with Nitrous Oxide – The time-tested effects of nitrous oxide—a.k.a. laughing gas—increases a patient’s tolerance for pain while creating a state of relaxation for the patient.
• Conscious Sedation with Oral Sedatives – If laughing gas isn’t going to be enough, patients can also opt for oral conscious sedation. Taken an hour before an appointment, a small pill containing a sedative such as Triazolam (Halcion) or Diazepam (Valium) will induce a deeper state of relaxation for the patient and permit extensive dental work to be performed. With these proven and safe sedatives, patients will sometimes nod off—a completely natural affect that gives oral sedation dentistry the nickname “sleep dentistry.“
• IV Sedation – For those wishing to have no memory of a dental visit, IV sedation is also available. Administered under careful conditions, IV sedation allows the dentist to complete large and complex dental procedures quickly, while monitoring the patient’s vitals the entire time.
